LAS VEGAS — A Nevada Highway Patrol sergeant who, police say, caused a fatal destruction while under the influence of marijuana has resigned from the coercion.
Edward Lattin, 46, turned in his resignation Friday afternoon after 20 years with NHP, declared Department of Public Safety Daniel Burns.
On June 11, Lattin lost control of his truck, driving over a Toyota and killing the passenger, police said.
During the prior investigation, Lattin submitted willingly to a drug test, police said. Once the toxicology report was returned to decisions, police before-mentioned Lattin had twice the legalized level of marijuana in his combination of parts to form a whole during the wreck.
He was booked with a felony charge of driving under the control resulting in death after the wreck. Troopers also began couple internal investigations and criminal charges in connection through the wreck, police said.
Since he is no longer with the department, Burns said the Department of Public Safety cannot issue a statement “since Lattin is no longer some employee with NHP.”
Court officials issued a $50,000 bail for him, which he met. He will subsist remote in court on Oct. 15.
If convicted, Lattin could face a mandatory two to 20 years in prison if convicted.
